Physiotherapy

Physiotherapy for joint pain, tendon problems, sports injuries and movement-related symptoms, helping you recover, rebuild confidence and return to activity safely.

Assessment, rehabilitation and practical support for better movement

Physiotherapy can help manage pain, restore movement, improve strength and support recovery from injury, surgery or ongoing musculoskeletal symptoms.

Dr Jones provides physiotherapy-led assessment and treatment for a wide range of joint, muscle, tendon and sports-related problems. This may include new injuries, longer-term pain, flare-ups, overuse problems or symptoms that are affecting work, sport or daily activity.

The aim is not simply to give you a list of exercises, but to understand what is causing the problem and build a plan that fits your body, your lifestyle and your goals.

Treatment may include education, hands-on therapy, strengthening work, movement retraining, load management, injury prevention advice and progression back to activity or sport.

What is physiotherapy?

Physiotherapy is a treatment approach that helps restore movement, reduce pain and improve function when the body is affected by injury, stiffness, weakness or irritation.

It is commonly used in sports medicine and musculoskeletal care to treat problems involving the joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments and surrounding soft tissues.

A good physiotherapy plan should be specific to the person, not just the diagnosis. The same condition can affect two people very differently, depending on strength, mobility, sport, work, age, previous injuries and activity levels.

That is why assessment is such an important part of the process.

When might physiotherapy be helpful?

Physiotherapy may be helpful if pain, stiffness, weakness or reduced movement is affecting your daily life, sport, work or confidence.

It can be used after an injury, during recovery from surgery, alongside injection treatment, or as part of a longer-term plan for conditions such as osteoarthritis, tendon pain or recurrent flare-ups.

Some patients attend because they want to recover from a clear injury. Others come because something does not feel right, keeps coming back, or is stopping them from moving the way they want to.

The aim is to help you understand the problem, settle symptoms where possible and build the strength and confidence needed to move forward.

What happens during a physiotherapy appointment?

Your appointment will usually start with a discussion about your symptoms, activity levels, medical history and goals.

This helps identify how the problem started, what movements or activities make it worse, what you have already tried and what you want to get back to.

A physical assessment may then look at movement, strength, flexibility, balance, control, joint function and any specific tests relevant to your symptoms.

From there, Dr Jones can explain what may be contributing to the problem and build a treatment plan around your needs.

Physiotherapy and sports injuries

Sports injuries often need more than rest and time.

A good rehabilitation plan helps guide the body back through the right stages, from pain control and early movement through to strength, control, speed, confidence and return to sport.

This may be particularly important for tendon problems, muscle injuries, ligament sprains, joint irritation and recurring overuse injuries.

The goal is not just to get symptoms quieter, but to reduce the risk of the same problem returning.

Physiotherapy and joint pain

Physiotherapy can also play an important role in managing joint pain and osteoarthritis.

This may include strengthening the muscles around the joint, improving movement, reducing overload, building confidence and supporting daily activity.

For some patients, physiotherapy may be used on its own. For others, it may sit alongside other treatments such as bracing, lifestyle changes, medication advice or injection therapy.

The aim is to help keep you moving as well as possible, for as long as possible.

What can physiotherapy involve?

Physiotherapy treatment may include a combination of approaches depending on your symptoms and goals.

This may include:

Exercise rehabilitation
Strengthening and conditioning
Mobility and flexibility work
Movement and technique advice
Load management
Hands-on treatment
Return-to-sport planning
Injury prevention advice
Support before or after injection treatment
Post-operative rehabilitation

The exact plan will depend on the diagnosis, the stage of recovery and what you are trying to achieve.

After your appointment

Following your physiotherapy appointment, you should have a clearer understanding of what may be causing your symptoms and what you can do to help improve them.

You may be given a structured rehabilitation plan, advice on activity modification, guidance on exercise progression or recommendations for further assessment if needed.

The plan should feel realistic, practical and specific to you.
